Berry smooth(ie) moves

I picked raspberries this morning. In my backyard. It’s a jungle of canes out there. They’ve defied their frame and its symmetrical logic; instead, they’re shooting out every which way, held loosely in check by twine. The chaos is rather appealing; the picking rather less so. But, oh. I am grateful to have these raspberries. They’ve taken three years to produce in such radiant abundance. This can only mean one thing: raspberry smoothies are on the house!

Raspberry Smoothie: Toss two handfuls of raspberries into a blender. Follow with two or three dollops of yogurt. Add a teaspoon or two of honey. Blend. Serves  1.

Raspberry-Pineapple Smoothie: Toss a handful of cut pineapple with a handful of raspberries into a blender. Follow with two or three dollops of yogurt. Add a teaspoon or two of honey. Blend. Serves  1.

  1. Love the sound of those smoothies! Thanks! One question though: how come your raspberries have come in before my more southerly ones? I have the same unruly canes but no ripe berries. Not even close.
